Ribs. Pork. Chicken. Brisket. Hell, even sausage. All BBQ has the same three basic ingredients: smoke, meat and time. What makes it different is the amount, consideration and attention to each part of that recipe. That, and some really great bbq sauce, too. At Jim ‘N Nick’s, we pride ourselves on using the right ingredients, taking our time and honoring the traditions that brought us barbecue.

Had the brisket sandwich with white sauce and macaroni and cheese. It was absolutely fantastic. The brisket had a great taste by itself too.

Being from Owensboro, I am finicky about my BBQ. Jim 'N Nick's rose to that challenge, and did incredibly well! I must say that the slaw was less creamy than I was used to, but just as delicious as what I've been accustomed to. I ordered a half pound of pulled pork and a half pound medium hamburger with blue cheese and all the fixings. The burger was divine- perfectly grilled, topped with fresh lettuce and tomato, and the bun was soft and flaky (brioche I believe). The pulled pork was different than the dry-rub and smoked style I've had before- a vinegar-y, acidic base was perhaps used to impart a far saltier and less tangy flavor to the meat. The pork was also pulled a bit thicker/coarser than I was used to, which was a welcome surprise. However, what set it apart is their spicy sauce- some of the better heat I've had in my years of judging barbecue! Next time, I will have to try their chicken and famous white sauce! A must have for anyone visiting Birmingham, or Alabama in general!
